Catching Up

It's about time for a quick catch-up, don't you think? It has been ages since we have posted for 2 reasons: 1) We have been busy and 2) I still have to use Allen's Mac as my only way to blog and it drives me crazy.

Anyway, the month of August held Pete and Lindsey's wedding in Northern CA where we got to see friends we have missed for some time, especially Dave & Shannon Burcham. I hear that they have joined the blog club now, too! Hooray! We can finally keep up with each other a bit better.

Our 6th anniversary was also held in the month of August. I can hardly believe it has been 6 years! It was a quieter year for us. We just had a date night on Friday with dinner and a movie and then on Saturday I took Allen to Il Fornaio, one of my favorite restaurants, but one to which he had never been. It was right acros the street from the Santa Monica pier and, since I had still never been to the pier, we headed that way after dinner. Unfortunately the pier is made of large, old wooden slats that leave just enough space between them for my heels to get continually stuck. So, our little adventure was cut short due to my frustration at ruined shoes. But just that part of the evening. We then headed back through Topanga Canyon to make a movie -- Rush Hour 3. I didn't remember the first 2 movies being so silly, but I guess they were. I mean funny, yes, but this one was silly. All in all, we had a great weekend just being together and celebrating the time God has blessed us with together.

The most recent adventure was our Labor Day trip. Allen went camping with some guys from church, most of whom are in our small group. They have gone for several years, but this was the first time he could join them. We are talking real camping here -- hiking in 2 miles to your campsite, fishing for part of your dinner, digging holes, etc. Definitely not for me, but the guys had a great time. I, meanwhile, went with Amber & Katie to Amber's parents house just outside Yosemite. We had lunch on Bass Lake, did some shopping and just enjoyed a very relaxing weekend away. It was beautiful and we had SUCH a great time! Thanks to Steve and Gail for hosting us!

This past weekend was Cowboy Church. I think I blogged about it last year, but basically every year the weekend after Labor Day our church does not meet at the building. Rather, we meet at Paramount Ranch, am old western movie set in Agoura Hills. There is one big service with everyone in their boots and jeans, then a potluck afterward. One of the youth group kids brings her horse and gives the kids rides. It is always a fun reminder that there are different ways to praise God.

We are also on the planning committee for our church's upcoming fall retreat. This year's theme is Created as Creators: Embracing the God-Inspired Life. Sounds interesting, doesn't it?

So, it is now September. Allen's travel season has begun (more on that later) and my busy season will begin end of this month. We actually both have trips to Dallas end of next week, so at least one of them will overlap and we can visit Granny Dot and Grand Dad in the process. :) However, unless I can get him to blog, it may be a little while before our next entry...we'll see!

Good to finally hear from you again! We spent our 33rd anniversary in Canada with John and Laura. It was very enjoyable. We had company all of Labor Day weekend. I leave tomorrow for the American Association of Christian Counselors convention in Nashville. It's usually lots of fun and quite educationally. I get to see people I went to school with that I haven't seen in a while.

It's great to hear how y'all are doing! I'm loving it here in Switzerland, even though I do miss O of A with you, Omid and Blake... and coming over to your house for American Idol and great food!

Have a great week and start of October,
Laura
