Two Become One

When you get married, the two are supposed to become one. What actually happens is you remain 2 people, but start to become more and more alike. This entails changing and growing in areas previously uncommon to you. The best example I have is behavioral habits.
In the early stages and even now, I am the one who has always been into fitness, nutrition and neatness (neat meaning "clean", not neat meaning "cool", but that too). Allen is not exactly a slob, but he's no clean machine and growing up in the South, fitness and nutrition was not super important and food was everything social. My how the times have changed! Allen has trimmed down and bulked up through regular 6:00 am workout sessions, drinks protein shakes, enjoys frequent meals at "The Natural Cafe", and looks amazing!
The traits I seem to have picked up aren't quite as positive. Never did a day go by prior to my married days that the bed wasn't made. You slept in it, you woke up and got out, then made it. End of story. I am embarrassed to admit it, but these days rarely does a day go by when the bed DOES get made. I still prefer a made bed, and yet so often it doesn't happen. Isn't that terrible? I have another one, too. I used to be fastidious with my healthy eating habits. While I still cling to most of them, I also have to admit that we eat at Taco Bell at least once a week. Now, I do order my items "al fresco" or without cheese, but still. I can hardly believe myself when I think about it!
I guess the lesson here is to make sure you really like most everything about the person the marry because you will become just like them! Lucky for me, that's okay. :) Love ya, Al!
