Playtime!

Luke loves to spend time playing on his play mat. He talks to his toys and reaches up for them. I added a couple more on the sides that he could actually reach. This video captures his fun...until a little incident at the end.

Bathtime is playtime for Luke, too, even though we use it to help him wind down before bed. Here are a few cute pics of tonight's "playtime".

Don't you just want to eat him up?!

The time has come….

The time has come for me to return to work. My first day back is June 1st. I am soaking up every last maternity minute I have while also trying to use his nap times to get some work done in advance. The volume of work to which I will return is even greater than that I left because of layoffs that took place the day after Luke was born. While I was fortunate enough to have survived, those of us left have to take on the accounts of those we lost. This is rather daunting to a new mom who dreads the return anyway. So as I spend my last few days home with my little guy I ask that you pray for us -- for my sanity as a working mom and stretched-too-thin employee, for Luke as he adjusts to Nanna, Grammie and Auntie Annie offering his day care, and that the time we do have together be meaningful and precious.

I have been craving more stimulation than life at home offers and am trying to focus on the glass half full since there is no way around it. I feel I am pretty good at my job and it is nice to have that affirmation since you seem to question everything you do as a new mom -- especially mom to a little one who thwarts all attempts at a routine! But I think my full 3 1/2 months with him have been precious and fulfilling. He knows who I am and I know his moods and schedule (or whatever of it I can create) and I have been blessed to have this (paid) time. Besides, since he refuses to sleep through the night we'll still be spending some good time together. :)

So, it's off to work I go!

Luke is 3 Months Old!

Our little guy is growing so fast! He turned 3 months on the 11th and we had our 3 month check up Thursday. As expected, our little eater has continued to gain weight and now weighs an even 15 pounds and measures 24 inches long. Can you believe he has more than doubled his birth weight? Given that he was not even here just a few months ago, his progress is amazing to watch.

Here are our 3 month updates:

* 15 lbs even (85th percentile), 24 inches long (50th percentile), head circumference 50th percentile; wears 3-6 month and some 6 month sizes

* wiggle worm! kicks legs and moves arms; never lays still when on his back or on your lap

* bats at toys hanging down from his play mat

* holds head up at 45 degrees during tummy time

* LAUGHS!

* brings hands to mouth to suck on

* holds hands together at his chest for comfort

* drooling all the time (signs of an early teether??)

* still hiccups every day

* takes a morning nap regularly an hour to hour and half after waking each morning

* takes a longer afternoon nap, but we're working on getting it done at a set time each day

* still not sleeping through the night yet, but I wake him for a feeding at 10 pm before I go to bed and then he gets up once at 2 am and then is up for good at 6 am

* still a very demanding little guy who wants what he wants and right when he wants it. goes from 0 to 60 in no time. will be quite interesting to see how this develops in his personality.

* LOVES to watch TV though I am adamant there will be no TV viewing until he is 2 per the AAP's recommendations

* uses his strong leg muscles to "stand" on your lap and to push against the bathtub wall

* just started to curl forward when sitting in his carseat, like doing an ab crunch, to show off his new found head and neck strength

It is hard to believe just how quickly he grows and progresses and is so much fun to watch! Here are some of the latest pictures to show off our big boy. Go back and check out his 2 month post pics to see just how much he has grown!

I like to throw in the car seat picture as a good way of measuring his growth progress from month to month. You'll notice he certainly takes up more room than he used to! Also check out the Pepperdine onesie he now fits (size 6 months!). Do we have a future Wave on our hands? Daddy sure hopes so!

Mother's Day!
I've calculated that Sarah has changed well over 400 diapers and that she has gotten up in the middle of the night (over the past 3 months) no less than 360 times. (although she probably got up that many times to pee when she was pregnant).
Luke and I are very lucky to have her in our lives. She makes everything work around here and we just try to make her smile.
This last picture is not from Mother's Day, but it is proof of her feeding him during the night :)
