First Family Easter

First Family Easter and a very tired little one.

Nanna brought this "Baby's First Easter" outfit for Luke when she visited. Grammie brought the bunny ears. Just how long do you think we can dress him up like this how and when we want? Maybe until age 7 or 8???? ;) This face says, "I sure hope this craziness doesn't continue much longer..."

Another cute little Easter chickie outfit.
Well, Happy Birthday to ME!

So I am officially 29 now. I have one more year to be in my 20s. I have no problem with turning 30. What's so bad about it anyway? But I am so far from 30 right now. I did have a minor freak out the night before my birthday realizing that when you turn a certain age on your birthday it is because you have completed that year already. That realization was cause for some alarm because until I thought about it, I was sure I had never touched 29 before.

My friend, Jolyn, and I both really love the specialty cupcake shops and went out to load up on sugar, just us girls. While you will count 5 large cupcakes in the picture below, I will just say now that I did not eat them all in one day and I did let Allen have some bites. ;)

My sister babysat that night (thanks, Auntie!) to allow Al and I the opportunity to have a birthday dinner out. We were so excited to have some time to ourselves! One of my new favorite places is Wolfgang Puck's Bistro -- nothing fancy, but so yummy!

Here's to working on year number 30!
Luke is 2 Months Old!

We can hardly believe our little guy is already 2 months old! In some ways, this is sad because is he growing so fast! We had our 2 month check up today and he is up to 12 pounds, 12 ounces, 22 1/2 inches and is about ready for size 2 diapers. In other ways, I am glad we have passed the 8 week mark because he finally turned a corner with his sleep habits at about 7 1/2 weeks. He still gets up 3-4 times a night but the timing is now more predictable and and he can make it for slightly longer stretches in between each feeding. As of now, he goes down for good at about 10:00 pm (after fighting it for about an hour) and then is up for good usually after 8:30 am. I am still very sleep deprived, but coping with it better.

Here are the 2 month updates:

  • 12 lbs, 12 oz (70th percentile), 22 1/2 inches long (40th percentile)
  • The BEST update -- Luke is social smiling! We get the best smiles just after he has eaten and had his diaper changed and is otherwise most comfortable. We can tell he is on the verge of cooing, but we are not there just yet.
  • We had our first illness -- Luke got conjunctivitis last week. My mom says most babies get it 2-3 times in the first couple years. I took him to the doctor and we got his first prescription. While I still had to wipe his eye through the night to get the gunk cleared off, it was not a terrible first illness for me to have to deal with. I think a cold would have been much worse.
  • He tracks us pretty well with his eyes as we set him down and move away. It's fun that he knows Mom and Dad!
  • He no longer wails during every diaper change. Still does sometimes, but has learned that getting clean britches is a good thing.
  • Still loves bath time and we have now incorporated it into a bedtime routine since it relaxes him so much.
  • I mentioned this already, but he finally lost his cord at 7 weeks, 2 days old.
  • wears 3 month or 3-6 month clothes
  • can hold his head up on his own when being held for short periods of time
  • sleeps on back at night, tummy during the day
  • still hiccups frequently
  • LOVES the Baby Bjorn
  • LOVES to be held and cuddled close

(not the best quality, but we were desperately trying to capture some good smiles):

You can get a good look at his battle wounds in the below picture. Those nails grow so fast I can't keep them cut short enough and the poor guy attacks his face.

This one just gives you a good idea of how big he is now. Still looks tiny, but certainly fills out his car seat better than he used to!

We love this baby boy and can't wait to post his 3 month update!

FINALLY!

Today, finally, at 7 weeks and 2 days old, Luke lost his cord! Hooray! I was so worried about what they might have to do at his 2 month check up if it was still there. Allen was telling a coworker or someone that Luke still had his cord and she said her baby had a hard time getting rid of his, too. Her pediatrician told her to literally pour alcohol into the baby's belly button to really make sure it was getting dried out. So I tried that over the last couple days versus just cleaning it with a q-tip like I have been doing a few times a day. And today out it came!

Check out this sweet, cord-free belly!

This picture has nothing to do with the above topic, but I thought it was cute. He looks like he's showing Daddy (who was holding him in this pic) that he will soon be ready to join him weightlifting at the gym!
