And we have a smile on camera!

It's not the best quality, but we got it! We then tried to grab a video of it, which only turned to crying.

Visitors!

We were blessed over the last couple weeks to have both Nanna and Aunt April (Allen's mom and sis) come to visit and play with Luke. It was not only great to see them since Nanna lives in Memphis and April in Togo, West Africa, but they were also a big help to one tired Mama! We miss you both already!

St. Paddy's Day Dress Up!

Aunt April brought Luke some green for St. Patrick's Day and so we had some fun dressing him up. Take special note of the cute little jeans worn "Grand Dad" style (meaning up well past his waist!).

Nanna bought him this "My First St. Patrick's Day"bib when she was here last week.

Guess he'd had enough of playing dress up.

Check us out in our green! It was appropriate since we are all part Irish. The person who brought us dinner tonight even helped us celebrate further with Irish stew and Irish soda bread for dinner!

Today's nap. I call this "smush face". You know he's out when he has smush face going on. Too cute!

This was last night with Daddy after Mommy went to bed. Maybe men can multi-task....

Bath Time!

Although Luke has still not lost his cord (see prior post for details), Dr. Tolcher told us we could go ahead and give him a real bath rather than still just continue the sponge baths, we just needed to be careful not to submerge his belly and soak his cord. I was glad to finally get that little bottom soaking in some soapy water!

We did not buy a baby bath tub because my mom always bathed our foster babies in the kitchen sink and she convinced me it would just be one more thing to find a place to store. So I just lined the bottom of our bathroom sink with an old towel and he fit perfectly! As I mentioned in the one month post, Luke loves his baths and having his hair washed and I like getting rid of the milk-in-his-neck-chub smell, so it works well for both of us!

Luke is 1 Month Old!

Our little Luke is one month old and we can hardly believe how the time has flown by! I guess that is mostly because our days seem to mesh one into the other -- I go from tired and bleary eyed feeding at 3 am to a tired and bleary eyed feeding at 3 pm. We wouldn't trade it, though. We are so in love with this little guy!

Here are a few pics to show just how much he has grown.

Filling out his car seat well.

Wearing big boy clothes.

A little love from Mommy.

Daddy giving Luke his first bottle.
Finally someone else can help feed you in the wee hours!

Mommy and Luke with Dr. Fine and Dr. Silverman.
Dr. Fine delivered Luke in scrubs and high heels. My kind of woman!

One Month Update:

Weight: 10 pounds, 1 ounce (85th percentile; was 7 pounds, 5 ounces at birth - huge gain!)
Length: 21 1/2 inches (50th percentile; was 20" at birth)

  • wears size 1 Pampers, 0-3 mo onesie and 3 mo sleepers
  • can pick up his head and move it from one side to the other
  • still eats every 2-3 hours
  • developed baby acne at about 3 weeks
  • hiccups frequently
  • likes to sleep on tummy, side and back
  • moved from cradle in our room to crib in his own room at about 3 weeks
  • LOVES the vibration of the bouncy seat, riding in the car, or walks in the stroller
  • not yet a huge fan of the swing
  • took his first bottle at 1 month, 2 days old
  • loves his bath and especially having his hair washed
  • STILL has his cord because the hospital cut it so short it couldn't dry well; pediatrician said to keep cleaning it and not to let it be submerged in bath water; might have to do something about it if not gone by 2 months
  • longest stretch of sleep thus far has been 4 hours and it is rare!
  • calm baby, not fussy unless needs to eat or be changed or his tummy hurts
  • smiles in his sleep, giggles in his sleep
  • HATES having his diaper changed and hates to be cold; in fact, he starts to wail as soon as you lay him on his changing table before you even start taking the clothes off
  • LOVES to be held and cuddled
  • LOVES to be swaddled tight

More to come as we progress into month 2!

3 weeks old!

Today our baby boy is 3 weeks old! Here are a few quick pics that show how his little face is filling out and just how darn cute our little lovebug is!

He has graduated from the newborn clothes, onesies, and diapers and now wears 0-3 month sizes and size 1 diapers. We can hardly believe how quickly he is growing and changing!
